Volunteering as a Mediator for YCM

Your Community Mediators (YCM) offers a Basic Mediation Training annually, alternately in McMinnville and in Newberg at George Fox University.  The 32-hour training satisfies State of Oregon requirements to become a community volunteer mediator; ongoing continuing education opportunities and supervised experience/mentorships help build skills and competence for YCM mediators.

Business leaders often consider mediation training as a professional development option for their employees, as the skills involved engender leadership and to effective team skills as well as increased communication proficiency.  Serving fellow residents as a volunteer mediator is an excellent way to give back to your community. Being a YCM volunteer mediator provides mentored opportunities to develop the skills learned in the Basic Mediation Training and learn about the different approaches used by various experienced YCM mediators.

After Basic Mediation Training, and after optional area skills development (e.g. Family mediation, Truancy mediation, Small Claims, etc.) volunteers on the average serve on 1-2 cases each quarter - or more if desired and the cases are available.
